The principle

Light as
the body's universal language

Think of your phone: depending on the radio wavelength you pick up, you receive WiFi, 5G, or Bluetooth, radically different effects despite the same principle of transmission. Light works the same way with your biology. Each wavelength speaks to a different receptor, triggers a different biochemical cascade, produces a measurable and distinct effect.

UV-B (290–315 nm) activates a skin protein, 7-dehydrocholesterol, which transforms into pre-vitamin D3 then into active vitamin D. In Switzerland, between October and April, the sun is not high enough in the sky to trigger this reaction. As a result, 70% of the Geneva population is in subclinical deficiency by the end of winter.

Blue light (460–490 nm) reaches the melanopsin retinal ganglion cells, your "daylight sensors". They send a signal to the hypothalamus, which raises serotonin, suppresses daytime melatonin and sets your inner alarm clock like a Swiss watch. Red light (620–700 nm) penetrates 5–10 mm into tissues, stimulates cellular respiration and accelerates skin regeneration.
